I have decided to put Slapdelay out of order for the time being. I’m not sure if I will resurrect it again, and in that case if it will be in the current form or as something completely different. I will leave the available content up for a while.

One of the main reasons are time. I’m mainly a musician/engineer and as work in that field grows I just don’t have the time to work with this blog at the moment. It’s almost ironic that Slapdelay was meant to ease my ‘blogging mind’ a little and, among other things, let me write about stuff that I hadn’t really allowed myself to do on other blogs and articles. As it turned I often found myself sitting late, way past normal work hours, to finish material for Slapdelay. I guess the good thing in all this is that it actually means that I’m more successful in other work.

Slapdelay never really turned out to be what I intended it to be, which is sad. But I’m very thankful to you many readers who support me in what I do. I hope that I’ll see you on my other blogs and articles.

Amp simulators is nothing new. IK Multimedia was early out with their Amplitube which most Pro Tools LE users probably have used, and HD users have been blessed with Amp Farm. Native Instruments, Waves and others have taken up the battle with their own amp simulators. I guess Digidesign got tired in seeing people shell out money for other plug-ins than their own, because now they’ve released Eleven.

My sworn enemy - the vocoder - is unfortunately back in style. The innovative synthesizer masters VirSyn is behind the latest incarnation: Matrix - the Voice Coder.

Acoustic treatment is off great importance when doing serious recording, mixing or mastering. Some might say that even the clouds need treatment (via Future Music)

I like Puremagnetik, who in turn likes Live, who’s users I hear like claps. How about a clapbox for Live?

I’m always quick to support audio development for Linux, and so is Linuxaudio.org. Recently they’ve reported about the Spanish blog Linux AV, a polish blog and a lot of other things. If you’re on Linux, go check them out.

A synth for guitar harmonics? Odd, cool or whack? Who knows. But obviously Musicrow thinks it’s useful. At least it’s innovative, and that’s always cool, right?

A good thing about open plug-in formats like Steinbergs VST is there’s a lot of freebies to grab. The hard part of it is to not grab the crap that messes with your DAW (i.e. poorly written ones) and to not fill up your hard drive with plug-ins that you’ll never use. If you can control your urges, then perhaps Freemusicsoftware.org will be a good resource. Crispin writes to tell me about this site that holds a good collection of VST instruments which he have tested and categorized. Nice.

For a couple of months I’ve been planning a major overhaul of my “songwriter studio”. I don’t record any bands here. I write and record my own projects, and I record jingles, theme music, beats etc. for people who order these services from me. Thus the description “songwriter studio”. I’ve already started buying stuff. A new guitar (Hagström) and a Jazz bass entered this cold Scandinavian bat-cave last month. Finally I have settled on the main DAW as well.
