Cockos has updated Reaper… as usual. Damn! Justin must be a busy bastard!

Leopard installer available for Cubase 4 and Cubase Studio. The catch? It’s still not fully compatible. Yeah I know… I don’t understand it either.

Lunchboxes are hot these days, but this one isn’t from API.

My (and probably many others) question on why the Lemur and the Dexter can’t do the same things are now answered: They can! The pricing is a little odd though. Jazzmutant should seriously considering lowering their prices.

Audio Damage readies a new product and needs you help on deciding the name.

Fairlight has released a new help system, called Xplain. Article on Broadcast Engineering.

Analog Channel offer

What a coincidence. At about the same time that I posted the latest “The plug to beat”, McDSP announced that for this month only they will be offering Analog Channel (native) for $295.

I swear to Odin, I had no idea about this. I would like to know why they didn’t link to my article when they announced this however. Argh… I’ll get you Colin!

Here’s some further reading on Analog Channel:

Why I don’t boycott PACE/iLok

locked-up-0.jpg

I came across this article via a post on Create Digital Music. The title of the 0article suggests we all boycott PACE/iLok. Well sonny, I don’t think I can.

The VAM

Small products for better sound from singers is the shite right now. Of course we have all these various autotune products, but I’m mainly referring to thing like the SE Reflexion Filter and the SM Pro Audio Mic Thing. These things are put on your microphone stand to compensate for poor room. But what if the problem is not in your room, but in what the singer’s hearing? The VAM is here to help. To me pretty much looks like a poor mans solution to a separate headphone mix. The problem? It doesn’t look rock ‘n’ roll at all…

Doesn’t the guy in the videos remind you of the guy in Jim’s world or whatever the name is on that American sitcom?

The plug to beat: McDSP Analog Channel

There is certainly some romanticizing of analog gear going on these days. “Digital is better” - the war cry in the 90’s - have been replaced by “digital is bloody awful man, get some analog gear and be hip like the rest of us”. While I don’t care at all for this latter attitude, I will admit that I enjoy tape and input stage emulators, of which the king is McDSP Analog Channel.

AMS-Neve 4081 - a christmas gift from AMS-Neve? Why is it that this thing only shows up on non-english websites? Are the French and AMS-Neve involved in some kind of conspiracy. Me certainly thinks so. This thing looks awesome.

Cockos updates Reaper to version 2.012.

ASK Video is now shipping Cubase 4 tutorial DVDs.

Portastudios are dead you say? Tascam says otherwise. This thing’s a looker.

You can obviously do all kinds of things with a Wiimote (like I didn’t know). Including playing guitars, drums and so on…

… and even sex!

What would Zappa do?

stfrank3.jpg

Recently I’ve been listening a lot to Frank Zappa and, almost even more so, read about him. I think he was truly a fascinating character and certainly a smart one as well. I don’t give a flying about what Jesus would do. The question is: what would Zappa do?

Kaossilator explained

Does this thing look cool or what?

And since I’m a blues fan, here’s something that would make Robert Johnson proud (if he liked the sound of 8-bit Nintendo).

Trackers

protracker.png

When I first got started in making my own music I used a tracker. If you’ve never used one then you might feel uncomfortable and a bit lost if you decide to try one since they’re nothing like the standard DAWs of today. The classics are of course Protracker for the Amiga and FastTracker2. But I’m not sure if any of these two are even distributed anymore. There are however a few others out there today that are pretty cool and could be fun to try out a rainy Sunday like this.

Garrigus releases Sonar 7 Power! A book on the latest release of Sonar, covering both the Studio and Producer versions.

The modular AU programming environment SonicBirth is now updated to 1.3 (I’ve actually built two plug-ins in this app!).

In a true Propellerhead way, Teaching Music With Reason is now available free instead of just being thrown away like old products usually are when they’re no longer supported.

Logic 8 is now explained by Groovebox Music. They have also released Music Production With Reason 4.

Euphonix S5 Fusion is now in Europe. Unfortunately not in my home.
